things need to change over time. i get that. sometimes you need to reinvent something that is either not working, can be more efficient or needs to just be refreshed. Sometimes change is good, and what you need to succeed. Its a smart move to, sometimes it bombs with a loud thud, other times the people behind the reinvention realize their mistake and own up to it.
today, i want to talk about three such things that are being reinvented, and in my opinion, not for the good.
1. facebook.
look, we all hate the new format, its been universally panned and it just blows. But why was it re-invented? Why did Facebook (nee TheFacebook) CEO 24 year-old young'n) Mark Zuckerberg feel the need to do so? Well, he said that wanted to make it more "relevant" to what people wanted, but in all actuality, he wanted to copy Twitter, which he unsuccessfully attempted to purchase for $500M. First off, Twitter is a fad (7 million users versus facebook's estimated 137 million), and to go out there and copy something to make you look like you are more in the know, well, it was a poor decision Mr. Zuckerberg. Facebook released a statement the other night saying that they are taking into account the massive amount of people who have voiced their opinions on the new platform, and we the users will see changes soon. I'm hoping, because otherwise they will see a mass exodus of users...to me, i hope facebook stays around, we've seen so many social networking sites in our time (Friendster, MySpace, Connexion) in our time and they peak at a certain point, and then lose relevancy...I guess time will tell with this change.
2. Dora the Explorer
Ok, no I don't watch Dora, I don't have any Dora dolls lying around, but I have been doing my best to keep up with the news about her new look. Have you seen it yet? They tweened her up, sexified her, and it's pissing people off. Dora was this cute spunky lil Latino girl who taught kids about the world out there. She was young, sweet, and innocent. Now...well, now she's looks like she booked a one-way ticket to Playa del WhoreWhore. Parents are in an uproar because they say that she looks to trampy, too sexy, and that she sets a bad example. Is this a change that really needed to be made? Mattel says that they did this so kids can grow up with Dora...Well Dora sure did grow up mighty fast! I spotted her perusing the trainers at Vicky's Secret...awwwkwarrrd!
3."Clue"
Ok, this one is the one that I am most upset/concerned about. We all remember the classic 1985 movie "Clue". I mean, how can you not, it's one of my favorite movies of all time, and I know many people who share the sentiment. The cast alone was insane! Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Eileen Brennen, Martin Mull, Michael McKean, Lesley Ann Warren, Christopher Lloyd... I mean the movie goes down in history as one of the funniest, most entertaining and hilarious movies of all time, and it's based on a board game for Christ's sake! That being said, I would like to know who decided that there should be a remake of this picture? Set for release who knows when, it's being directed by Gore Verbinski (who, in his defense knows how to make something out of relative nothing, case in point turning a theme-park ride into an unbelievably successful movie franchise), but I need to ask, is this really necessary? Do we really need to mess with something that in my eyes is a classic? Something that is beloved by all and now has the potential to be tarnished by a remake? I for one am not a fan of this change whatsoever. What do you think?
i love a good meal with friends. i try and see as much theatre as possible. i have way too many vices. i watch too much tv. i believe in true love. i love to travel and experience new things. i have too many pairs of shoes. i know way too much about pop culture. i can be a wiseass sometimes/often. i think that happiness is something that is earned. i am single and attempting to mingle. i used to be a publicist, but i'm not no mo.
